Elon Musk’s satellite internet service, Starlink, suddenly went down, leaving thousands of users across the globe, including Ukrainian forces, struggling with connectivity issues.
The company confirmed the outage on its website on Monday, stating that the service had experienced a major technical fault and that its engineering team was investigating the cause.
According to the outage-tracking platform Downdetector, more than 43,000 users in the United States had reported disruptions by 4:35 a.m. Ukrainian frontline units also reported being affected by the blackout.
Operated by SpaceX, Starlink uses satellites in low-Earth orbit to deliver high-speed internet and currently serves more than 6 million global users. The service is particularly relied upon in remote and conflict-hit regions.
Notably, Ukraine has been heavily dependent on Starlink during Russia’s invasion, using it to operate bomber drones and maintain frontline communications. Just two months ago, a similar disruption impacted Ukrainian operations. On July 24, Starlink was down for more than two hours, forcing Ukraine to carry out military operations without live coverage.
