During Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to Malaysia, both countries agreed to strengthen cooperation across various sectors, including trade, investment, and education.
At a joint press conference held in Kuala Lumpur, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim discussed bilateral relations, regional developments, and the humanitarian situation in Gaza in detail.
Anwar Ibrahim said that he had a productive discussion with Shehbaz Sharif on regional and international issues. He emphasized that Pakistan and Malaysia share the same stance against the ongoing Israeli oppression of Palestinians and are united in their call for justice and an end to the suffering in Gaza.
He further stated that relations between the two nations have grown stronger over time. Counterterrorism cooperation will continue, while peace between Pakistan and India remains vital for regional stability.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed gratitude for the warm welcome extended by Malaysia’s leadership and people, describing Malaysia as his “second home.” He said that the relationship between Pakistan and Malaysia is rooted in mutual trust, respect, and friendship.
Shehbaz Sharif welcomed Malaysia’s decision to import $200 million worth of halal meat from Pakistan, noting that both sides are eager to expand trade and investment in this sector.
He added that many Pakistani students are studying in Malaysia, and both nations are keen to enhance cooperation in education, commerce, and technology through joint initiatives.
The Prime Minister also praised Anwar Ibrahim’s book “The Script”, saying it serves as an intellectual and cultural bridge between Islamabad and Kuala Lumpur.
At the end of the press conference, Shehbaz Sharif recited verses by Allama Iqbal at Anwar Ibrahim’s request, earning appreciation from the audience.
Earlier, upon his arrival at the Prime Minister’s Office, Anwar Ibrahim accorded Shehbaz Sharif a warm welcome. The Malaysian armed forces presented a guard of honour, and the national anthems of both countries were played during the ceremony.
