Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is presiding over a crucial high-level meeting on national and internal security, attended by the country’s top military leadership, senior federal cabinet members, and the chief ministers of all four provinces. The meeting is focused on reviewing the overall security situation of the country and the escalating regional developments in detail.
According to sources, the participants are being briefed on the current situation in Afghanistan, border security concerns, and various aspects of national security, while extensive discussions are underway regarding possible future strategies.
The Prime Minister called this meeting in response to the recent aggressive posture of the Afghan Taliban and increasing border tensions. Key strategic decisions to safeguard national interests are expected during the session.
Those present at the meeting include Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti, Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Gulbar Khan, and Azad Kashmir Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwarul Haq. However, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi excused himself from attending the meeting despite being in Islamabad due to personal commitments.
Sources also revealed that the Prime Minister has convened a separate meeting to review the recent flood devastation. The session will focus on rehabilitation of affected areas, damage assessment, and briefings on the wheat policy.
