Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has issued a warning to citizens searching for jobs online, urging them to stay vigilant against fraudulent employment schemes.
In a public safety message, the PTA stated that not every job offer seen on social media is genuine. Many of these ads are used by scammers to obtain personal data or extort money from job seekers.
According to the PTA, fraudsters lure people with promises of high salaries, flexible working hours, and overseas jobs through fake postings. Their real aim is to access victims’ personal information and finances.
The authority added that fake agents use company names on social media to approach young people, collect their photos and locations under the guise of surveys or research, and then use this data for malicious activities.
The PTA advised the public to be cautious if a job offer seems unusually attractive, if the recruiter hides their identity, communicates only via WhatsApp, demands unnecessary personal details like ID numbers or home addresses, pushes suspicious links or app downloads, or requests location data.
For safety, PTA recommended verifying job postings through official company websites, checking verified emails, or contacting relevant HR departments directly. Citizens were urged not to share personal information with unverified sources and to report suspicious advertisements to relevant authorities, as online safety is more important than chasing a dream job.
