Islamabad: Justice Ameenuddin Khan has formally taken oath as the Chief Justice of the Federal Constitutional Court. President Asif Ali Zardari administered the oath to Justice Ameenuddin Khan during a special ceremony held at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.
The oath-taking ceremony took place at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, where Justice Ameenuddin Khan was sworn in as the first Chief Justice of the newly established Federal Constitutional Court. Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif also attended the ceremony. Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Muhammad Yahya Afridi, Chairman of the Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani, Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, federal ministers, and members of Parliament were also present.
Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, along with the heads of the Pakistan Air Force and Pakistan Navy and other senior officials, attended the ceremony. Justice Ameenuddin Khan has been appointed as the first Chief Justice of the Federal Constitutional Court, created under the recently approved 27th Constitutional Amendment.
In addition, three judges of the Federal Constitutional Court—Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi, Justice Aamer Farooq, and Justice Ali Baqar Najafi—also took their oaths, which were administered by Chief Justice Ameenuddin Khan. Judges of the Islamabad High Court, including Justice Arbab Tahir, Justice Khadim Soomro, and Justice Muhammad Azam Khan, were present, along with Justice Muhammad Asif and Justice Inam Ameen Minhas.
Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan, Advocate General Punjab Amjad Pervez, senior law officers, President of the Islamabad High Court Bar Wajid Gillani, and Secretary Manzoor Jajja were also in attendance, marking the commencement of this historic judicial development.
