A unique scientific study has revealed that drinking one cup of coffee a day can significantly improve irregular heartbeat and may also help reduce high blood pressure.
According to a report published on a medical website, the new study released in the Journal of the American Medical Association challenges long-held beliefs about atrial fibrillation, a dangerous form of heartbeat irregularity. Traditionally, doctors advise such patients to avoid caffeine entirely, but the latest findings contradict this assumption.
American researchers found that consuming a daily cup of caffeinated coffee is not only safe but may also reduce the risk of atrial fibrillation recurrence by as much as 39 percent, suggesting that measured caffeine intake could be beneficial for affected individuals.
The report states that this is the first long-term randomized clinical trial conducted to scientifically evaluate the effects of caffeinated coffee. The study involved 200 participants who were already suffering from irregular heartbeat and were habitual coffee drinkers.
Half of the participants were instructed to drink at least one cup of caffeinated coffee daily, while the other group was asked to completely avoid caffeine. Both groups were monitored closely for six months before the final results were compiled.
Findings showed that individuals who consumed coffee daily experienced a 39 percent improvement in irregular heartbeat, indicating a strong link between moderate caffeine intake and better heart rhythm stability.
Researchers further noted that a daily cup of coffee may help reduce high blood pressure, and the increased physical alertness after drinking coffee may also contribute to improving heart rhythm.
