The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has issued a warning to all users operating unregistered mobile phones, stating that such devices may be blocked from the network at any time. According to the authority, under the DIRBS system, only those mobile devices remain functional that are officially registered and verified.
In the country, unregistered mobile phones are usually sold at lower prices because taxes and customs duties are not paid on them, which is why many low-income users prefer purchasing such devices. However, the PTA has clarified that these phones are not only at risk of being blocked, but their usage may also lead to network instability and connectivity issues for consumers.
The PTA has advised users to obtain their device’s 15-digit IMEI number by dialing *#06# and then check its status through the PTA website or by sending the number via SMS to 8484 to confirm whether their device is registered.
The authority urged the public to register their devices before they get blocked so that network services can continue uninterrupted. PTA further stated that,as responsible digital users, individuals should only use approved and registered mobile phones to avoid any inconvenience in the future.
