The Election Commission has taken notice of the strong remarks made by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohaib Afridi regarding government employees deployed for duty during the upcoming by-election.
According to sources, the commission has convened a meeting today at 11:30 AM to review the matter and consider appropriate legal action related to the chief minister’s statement.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the KP Chief Minister has stated that Sohaib Afridi’s remarks are being presented out of context. The spokesperson said that the statement is being misused for political point-scoring, adding that the chief minister did not threaten anyone but merely emphasized enforcing the law. The provincial government, he added, is committed to ensuring a transparent and impartial by-election.
It is noteworthy that Sohaib Afridi, while addressing a public gathering in Abbottabad, claimed that the wife of PTI candidate Omar Ayub would win the November 23 by-election with 200,000 votes. During the speech, he warned the administration and police that if any untoward incident occurred on polling day, the responsible officers would not be able to retain their positions.
