PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court has issued a significant ruling prohibiting political gatherings, rallies, and other unrelated assemblies within the premises of government and educational institutions. The decision was announced while disposing of a petition filed against the use of such premises for non-official activities.
According to the judgment, government facilities, academic campuses, and administrative buildings cannot be used for political events. The court observed that these institutions are established for specific public and educational purposes, and unrelated gatherings undermine their sanctity and disrupt their intended functioning.
The judgment further stated that ensuring proper use of government premises is the responsibility of the relevant officers, who must prevent any political or unauthorized use of these locations. The court directed all authorities overseeing government and educational institutions to strictly ensure that unrelated assemblies are not allowed under any circumstances.
The five-page written verdict, issued by Justice Sahibzada Asadullah, also referenced the petitioner’s arguments. The counsel argued that holding gatherings inside government and educational premises violates Article 4 of the Constitution, and such unauthorized assemblies in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been continuously disrupting administrative work and academic activities.
After reviewing all arguments, the court emphasized the need to safeguard the sanctity and purpose of government and educational institutions and ordered strict implementation of the ban.
