Islamabad: The Senate has been informed that employees of Pakistan’s power sector—including DISCOs, GENCOs, NTDC, PITC, and WAPDA—receive between 300 and 1300 units of free electricity every month, depending on their job grade. The official data released has sparked renewed debate on the scale of energy-related perks amid rising tariffs for general consumers.
According to the details shared, IESCO tops the list, with its employees collectively receiving over 256,500 free units per month, marking the highest volume among all power distribution companies.
The Senate was briefed on the exact entitlement structure, which is as follows:
Grade 1–4 → 300 free units per month
Grade 5–10 → 600 units
Grade 11–15 → 600 units
Grade 16 → 600 units
Grade 17 → 650 units
Grade 18 → 700 units
Grade 19 → 1000 units
Grade 20 → 1100 units
Grade 21–22 → 1300 units
Overall, the data shows that 13 power companies receive a combined 318,445 units of free electricity every month as employee benefits. At a time when electricity prices for ordinary consumers continue to rise, these figures raise serious questions about subsidy policies, cost burdens, and the financial sustainability of the power sector.
