The Punjab government has decided to impose fines on individuals who spread garbage in public areas, aiming to further strengthen and improve the province’s cleanliness system. The decision seeks to maintain hygiene standards across cities and villages while promoting an environmentally responsible lifestyle.
A meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz reviewed the performance and progress of the “Clean Punjab” initiative. During the session, she directed officials to present a comprehensive plan for the Waste-to-Value project by mid-January, ensuring that waste can be converted into useful and economically valuable resources.
Officials briefed the Chief Minister that the Clean Punjab initiative has received positive public feedback across the province. To ensure monitoring of cleanliness vehicles, a vehicle tracking management system and live container monitoring are actively being used. For transparency, the salary and payment system within the initiative has been fully digitized.
Maryam Nawaz remarked that establishing such a large-scale cleanliness system is nothing short of a remarkable accomplishment. She noted that the project was initiated from scratch and has been continuously improved over time. The Chief Minister added that a comprehensive cleanliness infrastructure for cities and villages should have been developed years ago, but the current government is now addressing this long-standing gap.
It was decided in the meeting that individuals who litter in commercial areas or on public roads will face strict legal action. Anyone found spreading garbage will be fined as part of the province’s broader effort to maintain a clean environment.
Additionally, the government announced that clean vehicles will soon be replaced with environmentally friendly electric vehicles. Moreover, Punjab is set to launch its first project aimed at producing energy from waste, marking a major step toward recycling and sustainable resource generation.
