The fourth T20 match between India and South Africa in Lucknow was called off without a single ball being bowled due to heavy fog, prompting spectators to express strong frustration and demand full refunds from the Indian cricket authorities.
According to media reports, match officials conducted six inspections before the toss, but the visibility remained too poor for play. After a prolonged wait, the umpires announced the cancellation, stating that the conditions made the match impossible to continue.
Following the announcement, disappointed fans voiced their anger, saying they had arrived with high expectations and now wanted their money returned. One fan claimed he sold three sacks of wheat just to watch the match and insisted that his financial loss should be compensated. Another spectator argued that hosting the match during the day would have been a better option and that refunds alone do not address the disappointment they faced.
Meanwhile, the Indian media blamed the severe smog for the cancellation and criticized the government and cricket board for poor scheduling. Reports indicated that players were wearing masks on the ground, and the Air Quality Index had reached an alarming level of 400.
Social media users also criticized the choice of venue and the decision to attempt hosting the match despite hazardous smog conditions.
