Islamabad: NADRA has officially launched a facial recognition-based biometric verification facility, providing significant relief to elderly citizens and individuals facing medical issues who experience difficulty in fingerprint-based verification.
According to a statement issued by NADRA, several reform measures have been introduced on the directives of the prime minister and the interior minister, including amendments to national identity card laws that have expanded the definition and scope of biometric verification.
The statement said that the facial recognition-based biometric verification facility has been formally launched, while the same feature has also been made available on the Pak-Identity mobile application, adding that from January 20, NADRA centers will begin issuing biometric verification certificates based on facial recognition.
NADRA stated that citizens will be able to obtain the verification certificate by paying a nominal fee whenever required, and in cases where fingerprint verification is not possible, individuals may visit their nearest NADRA registration center to complete facial recognition verification.
The statement further explained that once the facial recognition process is completed, NADRA will issue a certificate containing the citizen’s photograph, CNIC number, name, parentage, a unique tracking ID, and a QR code, and the certificate will remain valid for seven days.
According to NADRA, the authority is fully prepared to implement the system nationwide and has requested necessary measures from relevant public and private institutions, adding that any complaints regarding the availability of this facility after January 20 may be directed to the concerned departments, while the service will also be permanently accessible on the Pak-Identity mobile app after the launch of the digital ID.
