On the occasion of the New Year, incidents of aerial firing were reported in various areas of Karachi, resulting in injuries to 25 people and causing fear and panic among residents.
According to the police, the injured include young girls and women, while 56 individuals involved in aerial firing were arrested during operations carried out in different parts of the city, and legal action is underway against them.
Rescue sources stated that citizens were injured due to firing incidents in areas including Korangi, Golimar, Five Star, and New Sabzi Mandi, and the injured were shifted to hospitals for immediate medical treatment.
Meanwhile, in Hyderabad, four people were injured due to aerial firing carried out in celebration of the New Year, while similar incidents in Nawabshah left two people injured.
It is worth noting that ahead of the New Year, the Sindh Home Department had issued an official notification imposing a ban on the display of weapons and aerial firing in Karachi in order to prevent any untoward incidents.
The police had also decided to deploy drone cameras to identify those involved in aerial firing and to enhance monitoring across the city.
According to police officials, drone cameras were planned to be flown in areas including Liaquatabad, Sharifabad, Azizabad, Nazimabad, and other localities, and video evidence of aerial firing will be recorded to register cases against the offenders.
Police authorities further stated that more than 16 police stations have been provided with drone cameras to ensure effective surveillance and enforcement.
