Islamabad: A sharp increase has been recorded in the financial losses of state-owned enterprises during fiscal year 2025, with the overall deficit rising by 300 percent compared to the previous year.
According to the report, loss-making public sector entities incurred losses amounting to Rs 123 billion during FY 2024–25, whereas the losses stood at Rs 30.6 billion in fiscal year 2023–24.
The report states that the National Highway Authority remained at the top of the loss list in fiscal year 2025, reporting losses of Rs 153 billion. Other major loss-making entities include Quetta Electric with losses of Rs 58.1 billion, Sukkur Electric with Rs 29.6 billion, Pakistan Railways with Rs 26.5 billion, Peshawar Electric with Rs 19.7 billion, and Pakistan Steel Mills with Rs 15.6 billion.
According to the report, during the first half of fiscal year 2025, major loss-making state-owned enterprises collectively reported losses of Rs 343 billion. However, compared to the same period last year, a slight improvement of 2 percent in overall losses was also observed.
