The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has submitted its report to the Islamabad High Court regarding the petition seeking the suspension of PTI founder Imran Khan’s X account, outlining the efforts made by the government over the past three and a half years.
According to the report, the government has repeatedly attempted to have Imran Khan’s X account suspended. In this regard, the PTA formally wrote to X on August 21, 2022, and later sent another request on April 18, 2024, citing convictions in the Toshakhana, cipher, and iddat cases.
The report states that on November 27, 2025, the PTA also wrote to X requesting the blocking of 47 tweets posted by Imran Khan. However, despite three formal requests over a period of three and a half years, X rejected the requests to suspend the account. From the November 27, 2025, request, only one tweet out of the 47 was blocked.
According to the PTA, social media companies were directed to register with the authority in Pakistan, but these companies neither registered nor appointed any focal person within the country.
The report further explains that social media companies, being registered in their respective home countries, do not consider themselves bound by the laws of other states. Complaints received from other countries are also reviewed strictly in accordance with their own internal rules and policies.
