Last year, Iran also signed the documents for full membership in the SCO.
Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Saudi Arabia in December, during which the two countries discussed joining the Saudi Arabia in the SCO.
Saudi Arabia’s acquisition of negotiating partner status in the SCO is the first step towards full membership.
