South Africa has made a significant diplomatic move by appointing former apartheid-era negotiator Roelf Meyer as its new ambassador to the United States, a development seen as important for bilateral relations.
According to an official statement, Meyer will replace the ambassador who was expelled in 2025 by US President Donald Trump, marking what is being viewed as a fresh start in diplomatic engagement.
Roelf Meyer is internationally recognized for his key role in negotiations during the end of apartheid and is regarded as an experienced and moderate political figure, with expectations that he will help strengthen ties between the two countries.
