Islamabad: President of the Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance Malik Shehzad Awan has announced a 10 percent increase in goods transport fares across the country following the rise in petroleum prices, while public transport operators have also implemented a 5 percent fare increase.
Malik Shehzad Awan condemned the increase in petroleum prices, stating that the decision has directly impacted the transport sector, making fare hikes unavoidable.
He said that the continuous rise in fuel prices is contributing to inflation, and according to him, government policies are also affecting the livelihoods of millions of people.
The alliance president further demanded the removal of fines imposed by motorway police and traffic police to reduce the financial burden on transporters.
Meanwhile, public transporters have also announced a 5 percent increase in fares, which has been implemented immediately, likely adding further financial pressure on the public.
