US President Donald Trump has indicated that the United States may soon deploy a naval fleet near Cuba, naming it as a new focus following the Iran conflict, raising concerns about escalating tensions.
According to international media reports, speaking at an event in Florida, President Trump said that a large US aircraft carrier could be positioned near Cuba’s coast after returning from the Iran conflict.
He suggested that the presence of such a powerful naval force could pressure Cuba into surrender, potentially allowing the US to take control of the country, and that this could happen soon.
Trump also hinted that this move could be part of a continuation of recent military actions against Iran, increasing the likelihood of further regional instability.
Meanwhile, the US administration has announced new sanctions against Cuba, targeting its government, security institutions, and affiliated individuals and entities.
The US Treasury stated that those sanctioned are believed to be involved in corruption or serious human rights violations.
The United States also indicated that secondary sanctions could be imposed on foreign entities operating in Cuba’s energy, defense, financial services, metals, and mining sectors.
Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel condemned the US measures as coercive, stating that such actions by a major military power are threatening and are causing hardship for the Cuban people.
Similarly, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez described the sanctions as collective punishment, stating that the Cuban people are prepared to face such pressures and will not be intimidated.
