Karachi: The Sindh government has decided to launch a quarterly stipend programme for children from birth to five years of age as part of efforts to expand social protection across the province.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the Sindh Social Protection Authority chaired by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, where several important welfare and social support initiatives were approved.
The meeting approved new cash assistance for 885,000 children and rural women, while also agreeing on special measures to ensure better child development, nutrition, and health monitoring.
According to reports, children up to the age of five will receive a stipend of Rs 3,000 every three months under the programme to support their health and developmental needs.
In addition, rural women will also receive monthly financial assistance during their non-productive periods to provide economic support.
The meeting also approved a major Rs 14 billion project aimed at improving early childhood development, which is being viewed as a significant step in the social protection sector.
