Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir is receiving growing international recognition for his mediation role between the United States and Iran, with global media highlighting Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in the process.
According to a report by American broadcaster CBS News, Field Marshal Asim Munir’s visit to Tehran played a key role in helping the negotiations between Iran and the United States move toward a final outcome.
The report stated that while Gulf countries and Lebanon remain part of the broader Middle East tensions, Pakistan was the only country able to help finalize the proposed draft agreement.
CBS News reported that after Field Marshal Asim Munir returned from Tehran, the proposed draft was sent to both Iranian and American leadership for review.
The report further stated that Field Marshal Asim Munir enjoys the trust of both Washington and Tehran, while the coordination between Pakistan’s political and military leadership served as a key factor in the mediation process.
According to the American television network, President Donald Trump has previously referred to Asim Munir as “my favorite field marshal,” while Pakistan’s government and military leadership have already played an important role in reducing tensions during the Islamabad negotiations.
CBS News also noted that Pakistan has historically played a significant diplomatic role in facilitating relations between the United States and China.
