Iran has denied responsibility for the incident at Kuwait International Airport and claimed that the damage was caused by a malfunction in the US-made Patriot air defense system.
According to Iran’s state media, a spokesperson for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps stated that the damage to the airport’s passenger terminal was not the result of an Iranian attack but was caused by the failure of an American defense system.
The spokesperson claimed that a Patriot missile failed to intercept an incoming missile and instead struck the airport terminal, resulting in significant casualties and damage.
Iranian officials argued that blaming Iran for the incident was inaccurate and that the true cause would only become clear after a full investigation.
Meanwhile, Kuwaiti authorities and several international sources have maintained that Terminal One of Kuwait International Airport was hit during missile and drone attacks, causing a fire and major destruction at the facility.
Following the incident, flight operations at the airport were temporarily suspended, and several flights were diverted to alternative airports.
Reports indicate that at least one Indian national was killed and more than 60 people were injured, with several victims reported to be in critical condition.
The US military has stated that it intercepted multiple Iranian missiles and drones launched toward Kuwait and Bahrain, while Iran maintains that its actions were carried out in response to American military operations.
Kuwait has not yet officially responded to Iran’s claims, and investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
