Norway national football team pulled off a major World Cup upset by defeating five-time champions Brazil national football team 2-1 in the Round of 16 to reach the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The match in New Jersey saw Erling Haaland deliver a match-winning performance by scoring both goals for Norway.
Haaland opened the scoring in the 79th minute before striking again in the 90th minute to put Norway in control.
Neymar scored Brazil’s only goal from the penalty spot deep into stoppage time, but it was not enough to prevent elimination. Norway’s victory secured their first-ever place in a World Cup quarter-final.
Norway’s players and supporters celebrated the historic victory inside the stadium, with Haaland joining the team’s traditional drum celebration.
Neymar was visibly emotional after Brazil’s World Cup campaign came to an end. The defeat marked Brazil’s earliest World Cup exit since 1990.
Norway will face England national football team in the quarter-finals after England defeated Mexico in the Round of 16.
