A United States congressional delegation met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and praised Pakistan’s role in promoting regional peace, expressing support for stronger bilateral relations.
The delegation, which included Congressman Ryan Zinke and Representative Michael Baumgartner, held talks with the prime minister in Islamabad.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, members of the delegation said the positive relationship between US President Donald Trump and Pakistan’s leadership was having a constructive impact on ties between the two countries.
The delegation also commended Pakistan’s efforts to promote regional peace and acknowledged its important role in regional affairs.
Speaking at a reception held in honour of the visiting delegation, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described the visit as a positive step toward strengthening Pakistan-US relations.
He conveyed his best wishes to President Donald Trump and also referred to Trump’s “bold and decisive” role in helping secure a ceasefire during the Pakistan-India conflict.
The prime minister said Pakistan is keen to further strengthen cooperation with the United States, particularly in trade, agriculture, information technology and the energy sector.
