“Lahore High Court Receives Petition to Restrain Punjab Government’s Functioning. In the petition filed by senior lawyer Aftab Bajwa, Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Election Commission among others have been made parties.
The petitioner claims that the constitutional term of the incumbent Punjab government has expired, although the Supreme Court extended the election date, it did not grant an extension to the current Punjab government.
The petition asserts that the caretaker Punjab Chief Minister and his cabinet are holding their positions unconstitutionally, and their continuation in office constitutes a clear violation of the law.
The petitioner, appealing to the court, argues that all actions and decisions taken by the current Punjab government in the past 90 days are unconstitutional. The court is urged to remove the caretaker Punjab Chief Minister immediately, halt the functioning of the incumbent Punjab government, and instruct the Election Commission to issue the notification for a new caretaker government in Punjab.
The request further pleads for a restraint on the present government from making significant policy decisions until the formation of the new caretaker government.”
