Islamabad: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has requested a written plan from the Pakistani government regarding relief from electricity bills.
Sources say that the Caretaker Federal Finance Minister Dr. Shamshad Akhtar discussed the electricity prices with the representative of the IMF, Easter Price.
According to sources, the IMF has asked the Ministry of Finance for a written plan regarding relief in electricity bills. The Ministry of Finance will send the plan to the IMF this evening.
It is clear that in a recent meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar, the federal cabinet approved the principle of paying the installments of electricity bills for July and August. The final decision will be implemented after approval from the IMF.
Sources stated that due to agreements with the IMF, the government cannot reduce electricity rates, but it is prepared to collect payments in installments.
Remember that due to recent increases in electricity bills, protests are taking place across the country, demanding an immediate reduction in electricity prices from the government.
Recently, during the hearing of a case against the increases in electricity bills and taxes, the Lahore High Court had suggested that the public should protest on the streets to force the government to refund taxes.
