Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has stated that the government is committed to fostering an environment of tolerance and mutual respect, noting that extremism and divisive rhetoric pose a threat to our social fabric. He urged religious scholars, community leaders, and civil society to play their part in strengthening brotherhood.
In his message on the occasion of Global Week for Interfaith Harmony, the Prime Minister said that Pakistan is joining the international community in observing this week to highlight dialogue, harmony, and cooperation among followers of different religions across the world.
He further emphasized that Pakistan’s vision, as presented by the Father of the Nation, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, was to create a safe country for all religions. The country is built on the constitutional principles of protecting the belief and dignity of every citizen and promoting equality. Justice, compassion, and respect for all living beings are the eternal teachings of Islam, and our faith encourages adopting exemplary conduct in this regard.
The Prime Minister added that the government is dedicated to upholding these values through inclusive policies that promote social harmony. He reaffirmed that those sowing seeds of hatred will be met with dialogue, those spreading fear will be confronted with courage, and those dividing society will be united in response.
He noted that the government is implementing a policy based on religious tolerance and interfaith harmony, aimed at halting hate speech and ensuring the protection of all places of worship, including temples, churches, and mosques.
Acknowledging that challenges remain, the Prime Minister stressed the danger of extremism and divisive rhetoric, especially in times when the world faces growing challenges of intolerance and division. It is crucial to reaffirm our collective commitment to peace and unity, he stated.
The Prime Minister appealed to religious scholars, community leaders, and citizens to play their role in strengthening brotherhood within society. He expressed hope that this week would inspire everyone to adopt the values of mutual tolerance and cooperation in their lives, ensuring a peaceful and prosperous future for all citizens.
