New Zealand has suffered a major blow ahead of their first match in the tri-nation series against Pakistan.
Fast bowler Lockie Ferguson, who was participating in the ILT20 league in the UAE with Desert Vipers, has sustained a hamstring injury, raising doubts about his availability for the tri-nation series and the Champions Trophy.
During Qualifier 1, Ferguson was unable to complete his full quota of four overs and was seen limping off the field, adding to New Zealand’s concerns.
New Zealand’s head coach Gary Stead has stated that Ferguson’s participation will depend on his medical reports, but his potential absence could be a major blow to the team.
With Tim Southee’s retirement, Ferguson was expected to strengthen the pace attack alongside Matt Henry, but his injury has left the New Zealand camp unsettled.
If medical reports suggest rest, New Zealand Cricket will have to announce a replacement, and after February 12, any squad changes will require approval from the ICC Technical Committee.
