India has demanded that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to reassess the loans given to Pakistan.
An Indian government official told the foreign news agency Reuters that India has asked the IMF to re-evaluate the financial aid provided to Pakistan; however, no further details were shared regarding the demand.
Khurram Shehzad, the adviser to the Pakistani Finance Minister, told the foreign news agency that the IMF program is moving in the right direction and that the recent review by the IMF was successfully completed.
It is worth noting that Pakistan secured a $7 billion bailout package from the IMF last year and received a $1.3 billion climate resilience loan in March 2025.
These aid programs have helped Pakistan’s $350 billion economy move toward stability and averted the risk of default.
The Indian demand comes amid ongoing tensions between the two countries following the Pahalgam attack.
According to the news agency, India has identified three individuals involved in the attack, two of whom are claimed to be Pakistani citizens.
However, Pakistan has denied the Indian allegations and has demanded an impartial investigation into the incident.
