Pakistan strongly presented its stance and effectively informed the Security Council about India’s provocative statements.
Briefing on the session, Asim Iftikhar stated that India’s violation of the Indus Waters Treaty is against international law. He emphasized that Pakistan remains a frontline state in the fight against terrorism, and Indian atrocities continue in occupied Kashmir. Pakistan has repeatedly denied any connection to the Pahalgam incident.
He affirmed that Pakistan is willing to support transparent and international investigations into the Pahalgam incident, emphasizing that dialogue is the only path to peace.
The envoy reiterated Pakistan’s strong rejection of India’s allegations and informed the Council about India’s disinformation campaign against Pakistan.
He briefed Council members on the unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty by India, warning that such actions pose a serious threat to regional peace and security. He urged the Council to take note of these dangers.
On the Kashmir issue, the Pakistani envoy stated that Kashmir remains the core dispute between Pakistan and India. Despite being unresolved for over 70 years, it still awaits a solution.
He called on the Security Council to ensure implementation of its resolutions regarding Kashmir, asserting that the dispute cannot be resolved without the involvement of the Kashmiri people.
The Pakistani envoy declared that the people of Pakistan will not remain silent if there is a threat to their water, peace, and sovereignty. He affirmed Pakistan’s full readiness to defend its sovereignty and regional integrity.
He stated that water is life, not a weapon; these rivers sustain over 240 million Pakistanis, and any attempt to disrupt the river flow will be considered an act of aggression. Pakistan will protect its interests and sovereignty at all costs.
Asim Iftikhar stressed that both countries are legally bound to uphold the Indus Waters Treaty. If India is not stopped, downstream countries of every river will be at risk.
