A large-scale operation has been launched against negative campaigns targeting Pakistan’s defense and state institutions on social media. Reports confirm that a total of 3,248 YouTube channels have been taken down for spreading misleading and provocative content against state entities.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) confirmed through an investigative team that these channels were actively involved in activities against national security and defense institutions during monitoring. PTA sources further revealed that a total of 119,496 URLs spreading anti-state and anti-security content have been blocked across social media platforms.
Additionally, 68 Indian YouTube channels have been blocked in Pakistan, while in recent days, 13 Indian news channels and 20 websites have also faced immediate restrictions. According to sources, YouTube channels belonging to two Pakistani journalists were also affected by the crackdown.
Official data indicates that Pakistan is requesting the removal of an average of 829 unethical and offensive posts daily. Over the past three and a half years, the PTA has requested the deletion of over one million posts from social media platforms.
Furthermore, more than 200,000 URLs contained content targeting state institutions, while over 400,000 URLs were blocked for containing immoral material. Thousands of pages and posts containing contempt of court, content against judges, and anti-Islamic material have also been removed.
The report highlights that more than 53,000 YouTube videos, over 150,000 TikTok clips, 50,000+ posts from X (formerly Twitter), and nearly 150,000 Facebook posts have been blocked or deleted. These measures are being taken to curb negative trends on social media and safeguard national security.
