Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar emphasized the need for reforms in the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), stating that unnecessary staff are employed within the institution and 16 director generals have been appointed, which requires immediate review.
Speaking to the media in Islamabad, Barrister Gohar said that the Pakistan Peoples Party has supported the government in the past and will likely support the current budget as well. He stressed that public money should be spent solely on the public, and it is necessary to think about how to provide maximum relief to the people.
He stated that members sit in the parliament through public money, so the government must seriously consider incorporating opposition proposals in the budget. He expressed concern that no minister was present in the National Assembly during the budget session, but hoped that PTI’s recommendations would be taken seriously.
The PTI Chairman further said that many countries, including India, offer facilities to their citizens through their budgets, and similar measures should be adopted in Pakistan. He demanded that the government abolish the property duty imposed in Islamabad, as the parliament appears to be failing in fulfilling its responsibilities.
