A devastating cloudburst followed by torrential rainfall has wreaked havoc in the outskirts of Gilgit, triggering floods that have affected multiple regions. The natural disaster has destroyed thousands of acres of standing crops and damaged several homes and livestock shelters.
The Meteorological Department has warned that the weather is likely to remain cloudy in the coming days, with forecasts of scattered light to heavy rainfall and strong winds across different areas. Heavy rains have suspended traffic on the Gilgit-Ghizer highway, causing major commuting difficulties for locals.
Meanwhile, northern and northeastern parts of Balochistan are also experiencing intense rainfall. A moderate-level flood has been recorded in the Nari River and Lehri stream, while torrential rains in the Koh-e-Sulaiman range have led to flash floods in local water channels. Authorities have issued alerts for nearby communities to prevent potential loss of life and property.
Additionally, a low-level flood has been reported at the Guddu Barrage on the Indus River, where water levels are rising rapidly, indicating a potentially hazardous situation ahead. In various cities across Sindh, streets and roads have been submerged after rainfall, disrupting daily life.
According to the Meteorological Department, a new monsoon spell is expected to begin nationwide from tomorrow, bringing more rain to several cities. Citizens have been advised to take precautionary measures.
