Aleema Khan, sister of PTI founder Imran Khan, has approached the court seeking permission for Imran Khan to sign a power of attorney. She has requested the Islamabad High Court to allow the return of documents submitted in Adiala Jail after being signed by the PTI founder. The petition has been filed in the Islamabad High Court through Barrister Salman Safdar and other lawyers on behalf of Aleema Khan.
The petition filed through Barrister Salman Safdar and other lawyers states that the Lahore High Court has rejected the bail applications. It is the right of the PTI founder to challenge the rejection of bail in the Supreme Court.
According to the petition, the power of attorney signed by the PTI founder is necessary for filing an appeal in the Supreme Court.
To obtain the signature, the lawyers submitted the documents to the Deputy Superintendent of Adiala Jail, but the documents have not been returned after being signed by the PTI founder. The petition further states that the deadline to approach the Supreme Court is expiring. The court has been requested to allow the signing of the power of attorney and direct the jail authorities to permit Imran Khan to sign the document.
It is worth mentioning that earlier, the Lahore High Court had rejected Imran Khan’s bail applications in eight cases related to May 9. A two-member bench headed by Justice Shehbaz Rizvi delivered the reserved verdict regarding Imran Khan’s bail. The court upheld the decision of the Anti-Terrorism Court, Lahore, which had earlier rejected the PTI founder’s bail.
After hearing the arguments, the court had reserved its verdict. Imran Khan had submitted the bail applications through Barrister Salman Safdar on January 15 in the eight cases of May 9. Earlier, the Lahore High Court had reserved its verdict on the bail applications in the May 9 cases. The bench reserved the verdict after hearing arguments from both sides.
The petitions were heard by a two-member bench led by Justice Shehbaz Rizvi. Investigating officers and special prosecutors were present in court during the proceedings. The special anti-terrorism court had dismissed the bail applications in eight cases. After this, the PTI founder filed petitions in the High Court in the Jinnah House attack case and other related matters. In the bail applications, it was stated that on May 9, Imran Khan was in NAB custody in Islamabad, and that he had been falsely implicated in the cases as part of a political vendetta.
