Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has revealed that 39 party lawmakers are facing the risk of disqualification under the May 9 cases. According to him, 25 members from the Punjab Assembly, 11 from the National Assembly, and 3 from the Senate are implicated in these cases.
Speaking to the media, Barrister Gohar stated that all PTI members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly have also been named in cases, adding that there is hardly any parliamentarian left, including himself, who has not been charged. He mentioned that six cases have been registered against him and that several individuals were sentenced to six months in prison today under May 9-related cases.
He further stated that the party was denied permission to hold a rally at D-Chowk, and instead, an alternate venue in Sanjhani was suggested. He described the cases as frivolous and unjust.
Barrister Gohar added that had they protested alone, it would have been a different matter, but historically, many have gathered at such locations.
He reiterated his earlier stance from two days ago, stating that the sentences in the May 9 cases were delivered without fulfilling legal requirements, which has damaged public trust in the judicial system.
He emphasized that PTI has always condemned the events of May 9 and had even filed a constitutional petition on the matter in 2023. According to him, the law requires a single court to conduct the trial of any accused, yet the party has faced all cases in the courts.
