On the edge of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of State summit in Tianjin, China, Pakistani Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif talked with Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian. Several federal ministers, Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Syed Asim Munir, and Deputy Prime Minister Senator Ishaq Dar also attended the meeting.
The prime minister expressed Pakistan’s devotion to its long-standing and strong relations with the welcoming nations and highlighted its significance in bolstering the economic, political, and commercial interactions between Pakistan and Iran. He emphasized that bilateral connections rely on shared history, heritage, and belief systems. He emphasized Pakistan’s ongoing commitment to restoring peace and stability in the region and expressed complete solidarity with the Iranian government and people, saying that dialogue and diplomacy continue to be the only ways of de-escalation and long-term stability.
The two leaders discussed areas of bilateral cooperation during the meeting and expressed their satisfaction with the positive developments in their relationship. President Pezeshkian expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s continued assistance and reiterated Iran’s resolve to deepen collaboration across a range of domains. In addition, he conveyed his grief and condolences over the recent disastrous floods in Pakistan, which caused numerous deaths and significant destruction in their wakes. He also assured people that Iran supports Pakistan wholeheartedly throughout the current difficult circumstances.
At the SCO summit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif proved to be the main focus of attention, and he got a warm reception from Chinese President Xi Jinping and his First Lady. He also spent time with Presidents Vladimir Putin of Russia, Anwar Ibrahim of Malaysia, Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus, Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of the Turkish Republic, Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedow of Turkmenistan, Sadyr Japarov of Kyrgyzstan, Mohamed Muizzu of the Maldives, and António Guterres of the UN. World leaders’ generosity acknowledged Pakistan’s cordial and beneficial bond with these developing nations.
