The wheat crisis in Sindh following floods has been intensifying daily, prompting the Pakistan Flour Mills Association Sindh to directly blame the Punjab government for creating an artificial wheat crisis in the province.
According to details, Chairman of the Pakistan Flour Mills Association Sindh Abdul Junaid Aziz has demanded that the federal government immediately permit the province to import wheat to resolve the current crisis. He explicitly warned that if the federal government doesn’t grant this permission to Sindh, the situation could deteriorate further in the coming days.
In his statement, he explained that following Indian water aggression and subsequent flood devastation, the Punjab government unexpectedly imposed a complete ban on interprovincial wheat transportation at the end of last week. He further stated that wheat harvesting in Sindh begins as early as February, which is traditionally supplied to meet the requirements of Punjab and other provinces, while Punjab’s wheat production occurs relatively later.
Abdul Junaid Aziz continued that after meeting its local requirements, the Punjab government suddenly and unexpectedly imposed restrictions on interprovincial wheat movement, resulting in an artificial wheat crisis in other provinces, particularly Sindh, causing severe difficulties for the public.
