The Sindh government has decided to provide free electric scooters to women under the Pink Scooties Program. The initiative aims to ensure safe, dignified, and cost-effective transportation for women, making their daily commute for education and employment more convenient.
The decision was finalized during a high-level meeting held in Karachi under the chairmanship of Provincial Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon. The meeting was attended by Transport Secretary Asad Zaman, Sindh Mass Transit Authority Managing Director Kanwal Bhutto, and other senior officials. The session reviewed in detail the framework and mechanism of the Pink Scooties Program.
Speaking after the meeting, Sharjeel Inam Memon announced that the provincial government would begin distributing free electric scooters to women and female students this week. He termed the initiative a revolutionary step that would make women’s daily mobility easier while reducing travel costs and saving time.
He explained that the program is specifically designed for women who rely on public transportation for education, employment, and other daily needs. The Sindh Mass Transit Authority is compiling the records of applicants, and scooters will be allotted on the basis of merit as well as necessity.
Sharjeel Inam Memon further said that the Sindh government has developed a transparent and simple mechanism to ensure maximum participation of women in the program. He stressed that both the provincial government and Pakistan People’s Party leadership are committed to empowering women in all walks of life, and this scheme represents a significant step in that direction.
He encouraged female students and working women to take full advantage of this facility so they can play a more active role in education, employment, and other social activities.
