During the recent polio eradication campaign in Sindh, a significant number of parents refused to vaccinate their children. According to sources in the Ministry of Health, 35,000 parents across the province declined polio drops, with 34,000 refusals reported from Karachi alone.
Data shows that Karachi’s East district recorded the highest number of refusals, where more than 8,000 parents denied polio vaccination for their children.
Health officials stated that the campaign was conducted from September 1 to 7 across 25 districts of Sindh. In Karachi, the target was to administer polio drops to 2.1 million children, but the high number of refusals is feared to negatively affect the campaign’s overall outcomes.
Health experts have expressed concern over this alarming situation, warning that denying children polio vaccination poses serious risks to their health and future. They appealed to parents to fully cooperate with vaccination teams to help eradicate polio from the country once and for all.
