The National Assembly session, chaired by Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, witnessed a heated moment as the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) staged a walkout in protest against recent statements made by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
PPP leader Naveed Qamar announced the walkout, stating that the party could not remain part of the session when the ground realities had not changed. He emphasized that the walkout was a mark of protest until tangible improvements were made.
Later, government members persuaded PPP lawmakers to return to the Assembly. Addressing the House, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said that dialogue remains the only solution to the country’s issues, stressing that blame games serve no one’s interest.
After Ishaq Dar’s speech, the session was adjourned until 5 p.m. on Monday.
Separately, journalists also staged a walkout from the press gallery in protest against police violence and vandalism at the Islamabad Press Club the previous day. It is worth noting that police had stormed the National Press Club in Islamabad, assaulted journalists, and damaged property, drawing widespread condemnation from press organizations nationwide and calls for an impartial investigation.
