Sindh’s Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has announced that the provincial government, on the directions of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, has decided to launch a major support program for farmers. He said the government will provide direct financial assistance, under which the first installment of fourteen thousand rupees per acre will be given to help farmers purchase DAP fertilizer.
Addressing a press conference in Karachi, Sharjeel Inam Memon, who also holds the portfolios of Information, Transport, and Mass Transit, stated that a verification process will be completed two to three weeks after the wheat sowing period. Farmers whose wheat cultivation is confirmed will receive an additional eight thousand rupees per acre to help them purchase two bags of urea fertilizer. He said this step is aimed at supporting farmers financially, boosting agricultural output, and strengthening food security.
He further said that more than four hundred and nineteen thousand farmers are currently receiving assistance through the “Hari Card” system. Over three hundred and fifty thousand applications have been received for the card, out of which verification of one hundred and eighty thousand farmers has been completed.
Sharjeel Inam Memon added that the Sindh government has also introduced the e-challan system, which is being appreciated at the public level. He said that even two major business personalities of Karachi have acknowledged the system. According to him, tough decisions are always difficult, but they are taken for the betterment of the public and to ensure order on the roads. He said the government does not wish to collect revenue through challans; the actual objective is to encourage compliance with traffic laws.
Responding to a question, he said that the Constitution was drafted by Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the 18th Amendment was passed during the PPP government, and Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari also played a key role in the 26th Amendment. He added that the PPP is a democratic party that follows constitutional and parliamentary norms, and all proposed amendments will be reviewed by the Central Executive Committee, where decisions will be made collectively.
He said the CEC will also decide on the 27th Amendment, and the PPP will support whatever is in the best interest of Pakistan and its people. All amendment points will be presented before the committee for consultation and national-level decision-making.
Speaking about traffic regulations, he said governments do not fear anyone—they enforce the law. Penalties have been increased to ensure compliance. Each province has its own legal framework, and any unfit vehicle will be seized under the law.
On the situation in Azad Kashmir, he said political activities are continuing and decisions will be made at the appropriate time. Commenting on the aerial firing incident involving lawyers, he said the law treats everyone equally, and if any lawyer was involved in unlawful activity, it is a violation of the law.
Regarding police matters, he said that anyone can challenge the law, but if any wrongdoing is committed by the police, the government will take impartial action.
