Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif today met with delegations of various coalition parties, during which consultations and suggestions were discussed on the proposed draft of the 27th Constitutional Amendment.
The MQM Pakistan delegation requested the Prime Minister to include provisions related to empowering local governments in the constitutional amendment so that financial and administrative powers are provided at the grassroots level and public issues can be resolved on time.
The MQM delegation at the meeting held at the Prime Minister’s House included Sindh Governor Kamran Tesori, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, and Dr. Farooq Sattar. According to sources, the meeting discussed the overall political situation of the country and various aspects of constitutional amendments in detail, and the Prime Minister took the representatives of the coalition parties into confidence.
According to a private TV report, the ruling coalition is busy preparing to get the 27th Constitutional Amendment passed by both houses of parliament this month. The federal government said that consultations are underway on the draft constitutional amendment, and suggestions from the coalition parties are also being included so that this important amendment bill can be passed unanimously.
In this regard, a delegation of PPP leaders will also meet the Prime Minister. The PPP leaders will meet the Prime Minister before the party’s CEE meeting and present their points on the constitutional amendment. The PPP delegation will include Farooq H. Naik, Murtaza Wahab, Irfan Qadir, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Naveed Qamar, and Sherry Rehman, while the government delegation will include Ishaq Dar, Azam Nazir Tarar, Ahsan Iqbal, Rana Sanaullah, and Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan.
In addition, a delegation from the Stability Pakistan Party also met with the Prime Minister, in which the Prime Minister took the party leaders into confidence and consulted them on the constitutional amendment.
Sources say that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will also meet with leaders of other coalition parties today to try to reach a consensus on the proposed constitutional amendment.
According to media sources, it has been decided to have the 27th Constitutional Amendment approved by the National Assembly on November 14, in view of which foreign visits of ministers and members of parliament have also been canceled.
The Speaker of the National Assembly has approved the agenda and schedule of the meeting after consulting with the parliamentary leaders of all parties; however, the parliamentary leaders of the PTI did not attend the meeting.
