Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, while addressing the National Assembly, strongly condemned the recent incidents of terrorism from Karachi to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, saying that the entire nation must remain united against militant and anti-state elements. He stated that terrorists are once again attempting to regroup, but the Pakistani people and armed forces have previously confronted them with unity, achieving what even global powers and NATO could not accomplish.
Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari said that the PPP aimed to bring constitutional changes through consensus. He added that he held discussions with Maulana Fazlur Rehman, but the latter adopted a separate stance after consulting the opposition. He noted that when the constitutional bench was formed, both Maulana Fazlur Rehman and the PTI were present, and the PPP, along with the PTI, facilitated the creation of the constitutional bench.
He further stated that following India’s defeat, the Prime Minister had decided to elevate the Army Chief to the rank of Field Marshal and emphasized that legislation should always move forward through consensus. Referring to history, he said that during the era of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, all political parties united to approve a unanimous constitution, which every dictator later tried but failed to dismantle.
Bilawal said that after the Charter of Democracy, the 18th Amendment empowered the provinces, and it is so robust that no one can abolish it. He reminded the House that the amendment had complete consensus from the PML-N, PPP, and all major political parties.
He stated that the CEC met for two days and concluded that the party would support the government. He added that Pakistan’s armed forces defeated Modi’s India, and the Field Marshal is being praised globally. He asserted that from today onward, the constitutional amendment would become a permanent part of Pakistan’s Constitution.
