Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has stated that a new and serious threat of terrorism is emerging from Afghan soil, urging the international community to take the matter seriously. He emphasized that the global community must pressure the Afghan government to fulfill its responsibilities in order to ensure regional peace and stability.
Addressing the Global Peace and Security Forum in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, the Prime Minister said that the peaceful resolution of disputes is a core pillar of Pakistan’s foreign policy, and Pakistan continues to play an active role in promoting global peace and security.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his pleasure at being in the beautiful city of Ashgabat and noted that honoring guests beyond family is a valued tradition of Turkmenistan. He also congratulated Turkmenistan on completing 30 years of its policy of permanent neutrality.
Earlier, the Prime Minister met with the President of Turkmenistan, where both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations as well as trade and economic cooperation. They stressed the importance of enhancing connectivity through land and sea routes. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also offered Turkmenistan access to South Asia through Pakistan’s Karachi and Gwadar ports.
Later, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited the Monument of Neutrality in Ashgabat, where he laid flowers alongside the Presidents of Türkiye, Russia, and Uzbekistan. The monument symbolizes Turkmenistan’s longstanding policy of permanent neutrality.
