Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon and Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah have formally inaugurated the double-decker bus service in Karachi, describing it as a major step toward improving public transport facilities for city residents.
During the inauguration ceremony, officials briefed Sharjeel Inam Memon in detail on the features and operational plan of the double-decker buses. Speaking on the occasion, Sharjeel Memon said that the government had promised the public the launch of double-decker buses and is now introducing projects that will benefit the maximum number of people.
He said that the initial route of the double-decker bus service covers 22 kilometers, while fares have been set between Rs80 and Rs120 to ensure affordability for the general public. He added that the service will initially operate from Malir to Shahrah-e-Faisal, with efforts underway to extend double-decker buses to other major roads of the city in the future.
Sharjeel Memon stated that the government is providing subsidies on bus fares and continuously expanding facilities for commuters, adding that the aim is to extend modern transport services across Sindh in the coming year.
He further shared that more than 125,000 passengers travel daily through the People’s Bus Service, while around 65,000 commuters use the Green Line bus service every day. He also confirmed that work on the Red Line and BRT projects has resumed.
The provincial minister said that all stakeholders are jointly working to improve Karachi’s road infrastructure, Rs9 billion has been allocated for industrial areas, and Shahrah-e-Bhutto has been developed as a state-of-the-art project for the public.
