Director General of the Punjab Disaster Management Authority, Irfan Ali Kathia, has stated that there is no possibility of snowfall in Lahore during the current winter season, adding that relevant departments are closely monitoring the weather situation to respond promptly to any changes.
He explained that although temperatures have dropped compared to last year, the overall amount of rainfall in Punjab has remained significantly low. According to him, Punjab received only 2.5 millimeters of rainfall in December 2025, which is nearly 75 percent lower than the 11.2 millimeters recorded during the same period last year.
The DG PDMA noted that dense fog has emerged as a major challenge across Punjab and emphasized that the foggy conditions are unlikely to improve unless rainfall occurs. He said reduced visibility and traffic-related issues may continue due to the lack of rain.
Irfan Ali Kathia further stated that rainfall and snowfall are expected in Murree and the Galiyat region after January 17 and 18. He recalled that last year’s winter season was unusually prolonged and added that this year, due to the delayed onset of cold weather, winter is also expected to last longer than usual.
He concluded by saying that climatic patterns are changing and cold weather is likely to persist until the beginning of March or April. He also warned that the intensity of cold may increase further after January 17 or 18, for which authorities remain on high alert.
