Federal Health Minister and senior MQM-P leader Mustafa Kamal has said that if surrendering MQM’s ministerial positions can help save Karachi, the party is ready to resign immediately.
Mustafa Kamal said he is being repeatedly reminded of past events, but questioned what the current rulers have done themselves. He added that after every incident, the Sindh government appears to wait for the next tragedy instead of taking effective preventive measures.
He stated that development work in Karachi has stalled due to bribery and corruption, and that he no longer has any expectations from the Pakistan Peoples Party. He remarked that every chief minister in Punjab takes ownership of Lahore, while every chief minister in Sindh has distanced himself from Karachi.
The MQM leader further said that their political existence is not being acknowledged, and that at present MQM does not possess the strength to confront the entire system head-on.
Meanwhile, Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah responded by saying there is a clear contradiction between MQM’s words and actions, and that engaging in debate with them is pointless. He said that from 2013 to 2018, the federal government allocated only 2 to 3 percent of development funds to Sindh compared to other provinces.
Nasir Hussain Shah added that Mustafa Kamal himself had previously acknowledged receiving the highest funds during his tenure as Karachi’s mayor under President Asif Ali Zardari. He said development work in Karachi is now improving and will continue to improve further in the coming period.
