Deputy Commissioner South Karachi, Javed Nabi Khoso, has stated that the search operation at Gul Plaza is nearing completion and is now entering its final phase.
Speaking to the media, the DC said that a technical team will enter the building for the last time today, after which the plaza will be officially sealed. He added that if anyone’s loved one is still missing, they may contact the relevant authorities so the case can be formally documented.
According to Javed Nabi Khoso, a total of 79 missing persons were initially reported; however, the families of 13 individuals have not yet provided DNA samples. He further stated that complete data of 30 recovered bodies has been sent to the government to initiate the process of compensation payments to the affected families.
Meanwhile, SSP City Arif Aziz said that all aspects of negligence and carelessness linked to the incident will be thoroughly examined. He added that investigations are also underway to determine why the building’s doors were not opened after the fire broke out and whether any criminal negligence was involved.
It is worth noting that out of 73 people who lost their lives in the Gul Plaza tragedy, 23 have so far been identified. The fire erupted at Gul Plaza on the night of January 17 in Karachi, causing extensive damage to the entire building and marking one of the city’s most tragic incidents in recent history.
