Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam leader Hafiz Hamdullah has stated that he has no intention of entering into a second marriage; however, if circumstances arise where anger leads him to break the law, he would consider marrying a 16-year-old girl.
Speaking to the media outside the Parliament House in Islamabad, Hafiz Hamdullah said he would advise JUI chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman to arrange mass marriage ceremonies in all four provinces upon his return from a foreign visit in order to facilitate marriages for young people.
He added that these collective marriages should include young individuals who have reached physical maturity, even if they are under the age of 18, asserting that the matter should be viewed in light of religious principles.
Hafiz Hamdullah stated that laws that contradict the Quran and Sunnah would not be accepted, and if required, such laws would be openly defied, emphasizing that Pakistan is an Islamic republic where legislation must align with Islamic teachings.
He further said that the Constitution clearly states that no law can be enacted against the Quran and Sunnah, and therefore, such legislation holds no legitimacy.
The JUI leader also remarked that those who have rebelled against the Constitution while sitting in parliament should be dealt with under Article 6, adding that Maulana Fazlur Rehman is conducting all political matters strictly within the constitutional framework.
He reiterated that although he is not currently inclined towards a second marriage, if anger or circumstances compel him, he would not hesitate to marry a 16-year-old girl.
